Surtees TS9B - 1972 as driven by Andrea de Adamich

Having founded his own racing team in 1965, it wasn’t until 1970 that John Surtees decided to strike out on his own and take on the twin roles of driver and constructor, launching the careers of Mike Hailwood, Carlos Pace and Jochen Mass.

Andrea de Adamich had some strong showings at the wheel of the Surtees in 1972, and at the end of the year he won the coveted title of Italian champion gaining his first Formula One points.

The 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix had a dramatic end as Ayrton Senna seemed doomed to fail as his gears gave out one by one but, with superhuman effort, he crossed the line.

Plus we look at the all too brief top-flight career of Frenchman Patrick Depailler.
