McLaren MP4/7A as driven by Gerhard Berger

We take a chronological look at the engines created by Honda for McLaren since their partnership began in 1988, and cover the 1992 season as McLaren’s MP4/7A, designed by Neil Oatley for Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, made its debut in Brazil.

Gérard Larrousse had been an excellent driver of everything from rally cars to F1, and his challenge was to start his own team – enter Team Larrouse in 1987.

The 1970 German Grand Prix saw an historic duel at Hockenheim between Jochen Rindt, with the Lotus 72, and Jacky Ickx, in the Ferrari 312 B – the first confrontation between two cars of a new generation.

Plus, this issue’s Champion of F1 is Frenchman Jean-Pierre Beltoise.
