Lancia D50 as driven by Alberto Ascari

Lancia burst onto the buzzing motor racing scene of the mid-1950s. Following Alfa Romeo’s withdrawal, the Turin-based outfit looked to mount a serious challenge to the more established Italian teams of Ferrari and Maserati. Lancia also managed to lure the two best Italian drivers of the era away from Ferrari, one being Alberto Ascari.

This issue features Scuderia Lancia from 1952 to 1955, and we take a closer look at the D50. Check out photos from the 1955 Italian Grand Prix, and the Champion of F1 is Britain’s Jackie Oliver.
